وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا
WannaziAAati gharqa
By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence.
Those who drag forth
وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِ غَرْقًا
WannaziAAati gharqa
By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence.
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِ نَشْطًا
Wannashitati nashta
By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers).
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِ سَبْحًا
Wassabihati sabha
And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits).
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِ سَبْقًا
Fassabiqati sabqa
And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses).
فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمْرًا
Falmudabbirati amra
And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account).
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ
Yawma tarjufu arrajifa
On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die).
تَتْبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ
TatbaAAuha arradifa
The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be resurrected).
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
Quloobun yawma-ithin wajifa
(Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety.
أَبْصَـٰرُهَا خَـٰشِعَةٌ
Absaruha khashiAAa
Their eyes will be downcast.
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِى ٱلْحَافِرَةِ
Yaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona feealhafira
They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life?
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا نَّخِرَةً
A-itha kunna AAithamannakhira
"Even after we are crumbled bones?"
قَالُوا۟ تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasira
They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!"
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ
Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahida
But it will be only a single Zajrah [shout (i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)], (See Verse 37:19).
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ
Fa-itha hum bissahira
When behold, they find themselves on the surface of the earth alive after their death,
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
Hal ataka hadeethu moosa
Has there come to you the story of Mûsâ (Moses)?
إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
Ith nadahu rabbuhu bilwadialmuqaddasi tuwa
When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tûwâ,
ٱذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
Go to Fir‘aun (Pharaoh); verily he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief).
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka
And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)?"
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ
Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
"And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him?"
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
Faarahu al-ayata alkubra
Then [Mûsâ (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles).
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
Fakaththaba waAAasa
But [Fir‘aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed.
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
Thumma adbara yasAAa
Then he turned his back, striving (against Allâh).
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
Fahashara fanada
Then he gathered (his people) and cried aloud,
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
Faqala ana rabbukumu al-aAAla
Saying: "I am your lord, most high."
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
Faakhathahu Allahu nakalaal-akhirati wal-oola
So Allâh, seized him with punishment for his last1 and first2 transgression. [Tafsir At-Tabari]
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰٓ
Inna fee thalika laAAibratan limanyakhsha
Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allâh.
ءَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ ۚ بَنَىٰهَا
Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami assamaobanaha
Are you more difficult to create or is the heaven that He constructed?
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا
RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
He raised its height, and has perfected it.
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا
Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha
Its night He covers with darkness and its forenoon He brings out (with light)
وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
Wal-arda baAAda thalikadahaha
And after that He spread the earth,
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرْعَىٰهَا
Akhraja minha maahawamarAAaha
And brought forth therefrom its water and its pasture.
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَرْسَىٰهَا
Waljibala arsaha
And the mountains He has fixed firmly,
مَتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
(To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
Fa-itha jaati attammatualkubra
But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense) -
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ
Yawma yatathakkaru al-insanu masaAAa
The Day when man shall remember what he strove for.
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees.
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
Faamma man tagha
Then for him who transgressed all bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allâh).
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
Waathara alhayata addunya
And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts),
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
Fa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa
Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire;
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفْسَ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ
Waama man khafa maqamarabbihi wanaha annafsa AAani alhawa
But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires and lusts.
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَنَّةَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
Fa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa
Verily, Paradise will be his abode.
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا
Yas-aloonaka AAani assaAAatiayyana mursaha
They ask you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) about the Hour - when will be its appointed time?
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَىٰهَآ
Feema anta min thikraha
You have no knowledge to say anything about it.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ
Ila rabbika muntahaha
To your Lord belongs (the knowledge of) the term thereof?
إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰهَا
Innama anta munthiru manyakhshaha
You (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are only a warner for those who fear it,
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَىٰهَا
Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lamyalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had not tarried (in this world) except an afternoon or a morning.
